On Saturday, August 22, from 9am-12pm, one of the world's leading consultants on early player as well as competitive development, Anne Pankhurst, PhD, will be at the Rocky Mountain Tennis Center in Boulder conducting a coach’s workshop for ALL Colorado coaches interested in early development of young athletes – especially those 10 and under. This event will precede the debut of Colorado’s Early Development Camps scheduled for 1-5 that day, also at RMTC.

Pankhurst, who was director of the UK's Lawn Tennis Association coaches education program and manager of USTA’s program, has been instrumental in the development of the USTA's 10 & Under Initiative. Anne will cover the reasons for, and the importance of, the red, orange, green and yellow ball court and competitive progression (ROGY). She will address the importance of developing athletic skills in young athletes as a foundation for their tennis development. The philosophy behind the Early Development Camps will be discussed. Coaches are encouraged to bring questions and concerns regarding their ROGY experiences to this workshop. Open discussion will be important!

Coaches and Parents – COACHES ARE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND!!

Tennis Parenting Colorado presents “Success in Junior Tennis - Embracing the Needs of our Youth”.

Also on Saturday, from 1:30-3:00 pm, Anne will conduct the first in a series of tennis parent/coach’s forums created to strengthen the player-parent-coach relationship. Anne will discuss ‘the race to the yellow ball’ with parents and coaches and will highlight the value of the red, orange, green, yellow ball progression in order to help parents and coaches fully understand the key issues. She will share how coaches can work with parents to create an understanding of why the player’s best interest is served when they play on the appropriate court. A child’s physical size, their emotional and social well being, as well as their tennis development are all important factors to consider before moving a player to the next court. Join us for a healthy discussion on the merits and challenges for coaches and parents in developing successful young players.
