Bruetting captures gold balls in USTA National Women's Indoor 40s/d
|
You might forgive Colorado Athletic Club Inverness teaching professional Simona Bruetting for being a bit rusty trying to reacclimate to the high altitude of Colorado when she took the court at the USTA National Women's Indoor 40/50 Championship at Meadow Creek last week, but the soon-to-be-40-year-old seemed to suffer no issues, downing top-seeded Marlo Caruth (CA) in comeback fashion, 1-6; 6-3; 6-0 to take her fifth overall USTA gold ball, her first in the W40s division.
She then partnered with Jill Vanderkooi (Castle Rock, CO) to capture her second W40d gold ball, defeating top seeds Mary Dailey (FL) and Vicki Leroux (Vail, CO).
Bruetting returns to Colorado after picking up a silver ball in Houston at the USTA National Women's Clay Courts (W35s) and a world title in the W35d division at the ITF Senior World Individual Championships.
In the Women's 50s division, Shannon Cross (Denver) and Stacy Swiggart (Steamboat Springs) upset the No. 1 seeds to capture gold.
